Pablo Sarasate

(artistic name)

1846-1853

His family moved to Valladolid, since his father was stationed there. During this period, his father started giving him violin and solfeggio lessons; as even as a small boy he already showed signs of being an exceptionally talented musician.

In 1849, his family moved to Santiago de Compostela where he was took classes with José Courtier, lead violinists at La Coruña Cathedral.

Months later, the family moved to La Coruña and lived there for five years, where Sarasate continued his studies with Blas Álvarez, a concert performer with the resident orchestra at La Coruña’s Principal Theatre.

He also lived in Pontevedra, in 1852, where he studied the violin with Urbano Casasvellas.
