Pablo Sarasate

(artistic name)

1902 - 1903

In 1902, the City Council named him Pamplona’s ‘Favourite Son’, a decision adopted at the plenary session of the 10th February 1900 and granted “for his artistic merits”. The Council presented him with the title on the 6th July at the Hotel La Perla, while the Santa Cecilia Orchestra and the Pamplona Choral Society performed a piece entitled “Himno a Sarasate”.

That same summer, he bought the “Villa Navarra” in Biarritz, where he spent a great deal of time during his later years.

In 1903, Pamplona City Council renamed the Paseo de Valencia in his honour, now known as the Paseo de Sarasate.
